The wildfires alongside the North Rim of the Grand Canyon made headlines this week after a historic construction, the Grand Canyon Lodge, burned in the blaze. Sadly, Grand Canyon Nationwide Park isn’t the one park beneath fiery siege. Colorado’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison Nationwide Park can be burning, with a wildfire on both sides of the canyon.
Park officers say the wildfires began because of lightning strikes on the morning of July 10, 2025. (Lightning can be the reason for the fires on the Grand Canyon.) The Nationwide Park Service (NPS) introduced in a press release that the park is closed till additional discover.

“Because the fireplace continues to be energetic and never contained, the park’s whole estimated loss is unknown,” NPS states within the launch dated July 18. “Preliminary assessments have decided that the South Rim Customer Heart, the administration constructing, and the doorway sales space survived the fireplace. Nevertheless, the power administration constructing, the Western Nationwide Parks warehouse, the welding store, a number of items of heavy tools, the South Rim Campground, and quite a few bogs and overlooks all through the park burned and have been both destroyed or closely broken.”
