
This previous weekend, greater than 20 ill-prepared hikers required rescue from Mount Washington, the best peak within the northeastern United States. The 6,288-foot peak is topic to intense winter climate throughout this time of 12 months, and—sadly—this caught many individuals off guard.
Mount Washington State Park launched a public service announcement on Fb, warning hikers to not come until they’re actually ready for the weather.
“Be ready or hike one other day. It’s winter on the summit of Mount Washington,” wrote New Hampshire State Parks on Fb. “At 12pm on October 26, it was 21 levels with a 30mph wind [. . .] and there’s no shelter. A number of individuals have arrived on the summit the previous couple of days very unprepared for winter and required help.”

In truth, greater than 20 ill-prepared hikers reportedly required rescue from the Mount Washington Cog Railway. Andy Vilaine, the assistant basic supervisor for the Mount Washington Cog Railway, wrote in a separate Facebook post that on Saturday, October 25, the railway introduced down 20+ hikers from the summit.
“Many [hikers] have been hypothermic and with out gear even close to appropriate for the situations. Most had no concept that Summit companies can be unavailable and that the state park was closed for the season. A number of indicated it was their first hike ever,” Vilaine wrote.
