
A Maine man named Carey Kish has accomplished the Triple Crown of Hiking, a feat solely 693 other people have officially achieved. Kish completed the Continental Divide Path (CDT) on Monday, September 23, marking the third of three intense thru-hikes required for the Triple Crown. Kish is 65 years outdated, and he says he’s been dreaming of the thru-hiking life since he was eight years outdated.
Kish told local news outlet the Mount Desert Islander that he first noticed a part of the Appalachian Path (AT) at age eight whereas he was on trip along with his household.
“I simply couldn’t get [it] out of my head,” stated Kish. “That there was this path that spanned the jap United States from one finish to the opposite . . . I grew to become consumed by the path. I learn all the things about it. And slowly however certainly, I began to plan. I obtained critical about it after I was about 11.”
A handful of a long time later, Kish joins an elite membership of via hikers who’ve tackled all three of the nation’s main long-distance climbing trails: the AT, the CDT, and Pacific Crest Path (PCT). Collectively, the hikes complete a distance of greater than 7,400 miles.
The American Long-Distance Hiking Association-West awards the Triple Crown of Climbing to via hikers who full the treks and apply for the award. We assume Kish will apply when the 2025 award interval opens up.
“I’m some kinda drained. And glad. And just a bit wistful,” wrote Kish in a latest Instagram publish marking the top of his CDT trek. “After 7 1/2 months away, although, I’m prepared to return dwelling to Maine.”
